Biomarkers of ageing associated dysfunctions and diseases

The identification of biomarkers is an ongoing task to identify the health status of a living organism.  The objective measurement of such indicators provides essential information about the biological and pathogenic processes. This information can be used for stratification of patients, monitoring of diseases and the effect of (therapeutic) interventions. Ageing, the process of becoming older, is characterized by the change of the efficiency of different cellular mechanisms and dysbalances of biological responses. These age depended changes are manifested in diseases, the most prominent are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. All these diseases have in common that the initial pathogenesis starts years before the symptomatic outbreak and may be treatable before the clinical manifestation of the disease. By using multi-omics technologies on blood derived Extracellular Vesicles we address the task to develop early diagnostic tools for precision medicine.
